Changes to English Requirements for International Nurses
Overseas nurses are essential to the NHS, and a key part of our caring services. Good communication is vital for patients and staff, and the NMC has recognised that with their commitment to better and safer care.
From Wednesday 5 December 2018, the NMC will now accept an IELTS band of 6.5 for writing. All other parts of the exam (reading, speaking and listening) will still require a band score of 7.
The requirements for OET remain the same, all sub-tests still have a passing grade of B. However, the structure of the test has changed. The listening and reading sub-tests now have 3 parts to the exam rather than two. We’ve put together a little guide for you, showing the new structure and answering some of the questions you may have.
If you’d like to talk about the new changes to IELTS and OET, we’d love to hear from you do get in touch!
