Not Quite Nice
Learning new vocabulary is more fun when you join a book club. Recently Book Clubs and conversation classes have become more popular than ever, thanks to furlough and school closures during the pandemic.
For some time now, we’ve been running a Book Club together with a conversation class, and I thought you might enjoy it too!
The novel we’re reading at the moment is Not Quite Nice by Celia Imrie, a well known English actress and author.
About the book
This is a light-hearted novel which is full of new vocabulary (including slang and colloquial language) which will help you in your everyday conversation. Set in France, this story is about…. well, what do you think it’s about?
Look closely at the cover of the book.
- What clues does it give you about the story?
- What impression does the picture give you?
- Where in France do you think this is?
- Who is the woman on the cover?
- What is she doing?
Think about these questions, they will put you in the right mindset for reading the book.
Every month we’ll give you one or two chapters to read, and a list of discussion questions. Then we’ll hold a Facebook live or Zoom event for our FB Book Club Group. We can all talk about the book, look at the vocabulary and language and see how you can use it in your conversations.
Here is this month’s list of questions to discuss:
You can get this book easily from your local library (here is a link to find any public library in the UK), or if you would like to buy it, you can buy a good used edition online.
I’m looking forward to welcoming you to our new Book Club, and if you would like to join us or want more information, email me! Our first meeting will be at the end of April, I’ll look forward to seeing you then.
